Error 042 on the ARIES M12 system specifically refers to a "Thermal Cycler Out of Range" fault in one of the internal Assay Modules. This means the system cannot reach or maintain the precise temperature needed for the DNA amplification process. If this error appears, the specific module (A or B) will be disabled, though the rest of the system can usually continue to run tests using the functioning module.
First, perform a "Hard Power Cycle" of the instrument. Turn off the ARIES M12 using the rear power switch, wait 60 seconds, and restart. During the boot-up sequence, the system performs a "Home Positioning" of all internal parts. If Error 042 was caused by a temporary software glitch or a minor mechanical jam, the reboot will often clear the fault and return the module to "Ready" status.
If the error returns immediately, it indicates a hardware failure of the Peltier heating element. In this case, use the xPONENT software to "Park" the affected module. This allows you to continue using the other half of the machine while waiting for a replacement part. Provide the specific "Module Serial Number" (found in the Software Diagnostics tab) to support when opening a ticket to ensure the correct replacement unit is shipped.
